17 IMIH pilotschools

The grand opening of Open Schoolday

Open school day took place on Sunday 11th December @ Quang Trung school, one of the 17 pilot schools. Although the weather was very cold 243 invites (teachers, directors and guests) and more than 200 children attended the ICT event. Next to ICT games for children and various ICT competitions there were exciting presentations.

Mrs Quynh gave two presentations on the IMIH vision on ICT integration in teaching and learning. Mr. Robert Cope presented the ‘English4ICT’ course concept, a collaboration between UNESCO and VVOB Vietnam. Both presentations aimed at promoting the IMIH capacity building program starting in February 2006.

Mr. Hung (Edunet) introduced the Vietnamese Moodle, an open software virtual learning platform that is promoted by the Government. This presentation was to wet teacher’s appetite to set up a Moodle as part of the IMIH capacity building program on ICT integration in teaching and learning. A two day workshop on how to set up a Moodle will be organised in January 2006 @ HCM.

Mrs. Bui Tu Ngoc, who ‘wears different hats’ shared her experiences on the integration of ICT in a Vietnamese classroom and a presentation on the objectives the Microsoft PIL program (Partners in Learning). Mrs. Bui Tu Ngoc might well be the one of the best examples of ICT integrators in Vietnam since she focuses more on the methodology than on the ‘T’ in ICT.

Mr. Toon De Bruyn (HEEP) presented the results of the exciting IC3 workshop where experiential learning and ICT were infused in environmental education and Mr. Phuong successfully assisted the students in opening blogs or email accounts.

Hanoi television took interviews of Mr. Hung, director of HRCTEM, Mr. An, director of Quang Trung and Ms. Simone Goetschalckx, VVOB representative Vietnam. The result was broadcasted on Sunday afternoon during a 10 minutes coverage. Also, an article appeared in the newspaper.

The results of a SWOT analyses on this ICT event will be posted later on.

HEEP!

Mr. Ludo Heylen and Mrs. Hong @ the IC3 workshop

The IC3 workshop on experiential learning, ICT and environmental education took place from 30th November until the 6th December @ HRCTEM College. The IC3 workshop was attended by most teachers of the HRCTEM, pilot schools of both VVOB projects and 3 VVOB coordinators. Ludo Heylen, a Belgian expert on experiential learning (CEGO) first linked the art of cultivating bonsai trees to the concept of education and then introduced the broad international activities of CEGO. All participants received a brochure of the IMIH and HEEP project and an eco friendly bag especially designed for the occasion. Both Toon De Bruyn and Bart Cornille presented their vision on the VVOB projects @ HRCTEM. Ludo Heylen took the participants through lively sessions on experiential learning and a very interesting application called ‘contract work’. During one day and a half the participants were given the change to apply what they had learned. Group 1 created a digital database of trees in Hanoi (sound and music was recorded) and group 2 interviewed and filmed people on the importance of the trees in Hanoi. The last group followed a faxcination initiation and made an animated film in less than 2 hours. All these activities where presented during the last day in a mix of performance, poetry and singing. Needless to say, the IC3 workshop was a success and there is a need for follow-up (We will do a SWOT analysis with the project team).
